My goal is to make silly little creations, but it’s also my goal to make these creations technologically sustainable from a preservation standpoint, and ideally a resource-use standpoint.

Designspace Dragon is unusual in that its design required very new web browser versions. While I don’t believe people should use older web browsers directly on the Internet, I feel uncomfortable by the idea of eliminating people from enjoying my work because they’re not using the latest tech.

In general, I’ve gotten increasingly weary of the general direction of the Web as we know it. Web browsers are becoming increasingly bloated and hostile, which makes me really weary of using any features that are only in newer browsers. The only exception to this rule are video and image formats, especially because older web browsers can fall back to older formats (they’re also useful outside the Web, and newer formats do provide significant savings in bandwidth).

I really like the idea of a dynamic dragon customizer, and I do want to create something like that again. It’ll likely be part of a bigger project though, and it’ll be rebuilt in a way that’s more technologically sustainable.
