July 18 2024 Update

I’m going into hibernation until 2025.

Heyo!

Got a few things for you today.

Small updates

First, a couple updates have been made to the website. Mainly, I’ve added two recent animations:

  • first-person shooters are violent
  • amCREATCHA

I’ve also done a little bit of tidying to prepare my website a little bit for a longer term project. Nothing super crazy.

But I’ve got a major personal update to share with you...

I’m going into hibernation

Starting July 21, 2024, I will be in hibernation until January 1, 2025. This means that during that time, I will be completely off the Fediverse and all my other socials, and I won’t be checking my email.

Why am I doing this?

I’ve absolutely enjoyed my time making animations, sharing them with the world, and seeing people actively engage with it beyond what I could have imagined. I’ve also found about all sorts of cool yet forgotten ideas thanks to the communities I’ve been in, and had very good conversations with others.

However, I’ve come to realize that being frequently on social media isn’t good for me and is becoming detrimental to my productivity. While I could very well build a considerable audience just cranking out animations, I have much grander ambitions than that. I need to be more focused on bringing these ambitions to life, and social media is causing my attention to spread too thin.

Will I frequently go on hibernation?

I’m not sure. It may become less necessary as my long-term projects bear fruit, but I’m not there yet.

What will the future hold?

In a way I think of this first year as my “introduction”, as a taste of who I am and who I want to be. I think I’ve communicated that pretty well and I’ve been grateful for the engagement I’ve gotten despite being just another animator.

At the very least, my goal for 2025 is to publicly lay the groundwork for my long-term vision. I’ll be posting a statement about my very ambitious lifelong mission, and how I’m planning to achieve it. It’s possible that my efforts will also bear fruit by then, but I’m not going to make any guarantees on that. It may take years to get there.

Conclusion

Although I’m currently known for posting animations, I have a lot of things going on behind-the-scenes that I want to develop to a point where I can show them to everyone. While social media has been incredibly useful and it’s been great to see my stuff get engagement, it’s currently reached a point where it’s harming my productivity. So I’m stepping away for a while, and hopefully I’ll come back with some new cool stuff!

I’ll see you next year!
